Boots Boots Boots - For Boot Guys Only

Here's my first impressions of the Red Wing 2218 9" Logger-Lineman boots. These boots are often used by commercial and industrial workers who have a demand for boots that are going to stand up to some seriously hard use. They also seem to be a favorite of many folks who use them for biker...

Boots Boots Boots - For Boot Guys Only

I'm crossposting this from the AE appreciation thread as it might be of some interest here. The boots are from top clockwise, J-Crew Alden Indy, Higgins Mill, and RedWing 8146. All of these boots are made in USA, which is important to me. The first two are the most similar and fulfill...

You should see what aviation forums do to my wallet! That's been my experience as well with the steel shank. It was a much more important feature for work boots when I was doing more work up and down stairs and ladders carrying heavy equipment. I don't weigh that much so I don't think it makes...

I haven't posted in quite a while, so to make amends I thought I'd make it a lengthy one giving my impressions of 3 different boots. I like all of these boots for different reasons. I'll start from top to bottom and describe my experience with them. The bottom picture is from when the Alden...

That's what's so disconcerting about Florsheim. They once made great shoes and had a great reputation for service, which they effectively sold out for a quick profit.

They were one of a few US shoe companies that effectively sold their name to products no longer made in the US with inferior leathers and craftsmanship.

I finally got rid of my last pair of Florsheim a few months back. I used to really love their shoes.

Most of my wool slacks are made in Italy, and for all of those I buy them right at my actual waist measurement. With Bonobos chinos I wear one inch less than my actual waist measurement. I almost always wear them with an undershirt and overshirt, both tucked in, and I don't like my pants to...

The leather quality of the Indy line is the biggest difference. I have two of the Hops and the difference between those and my other AEs is striking. The leather is softer and more pliable, which makes the shoes more comfortable. They also shine up much more nicely and with less effort than...

The favored ebay source for AE 3rds has a pair of black Hops in 9D that look as if they have only been worn a time or two. If I didn't already have a pair I'd be all over it. Assuming a 60% offer would be accepted, that's $114 for an almost new $500(firsts) or $400(seconds) shoe that rarely...

I have a pair of shell Macs and a couple of Neumoks in the 65. All are 9D and all fit me quite well.

While there are certainly other shoes and boots that work with a suit, few others rise to the level of classic style you get with a black calf captoe balmoral.

    Poor man's watch thread

There's a certain novelty aspect to the HMT that you don't get with a Seiko. It's like comparing a Holga to a Nikon. It's a small miracle they work at all.

I like them. The next time I'm in Boulder I'll have to remember to check them out.

I just searched under Men's Pants filtering on my waist size, manufacturer, and new. I can easily find longer than what I need and my daughter hems them for me. It's one of the advantages of being short. I buy slacks the same way. I snagged a badass pair of Incotex tweed slacks in slim fit...

I don't really like flying on big aircraft. They take longer to board and are generally used for very long routes. On a 8 hour or longer flight, everyone on board has to take a crap at some point and they don't vent them to the outside.

I just snagged my 4th pair of Bonobos chinos on flea-bay. Two are straight leg and two are slim fit. Didn't pay more than $32 for any of them and they were all new with tags. Evidently Nordstrom clearanced a bunch of them out and a few folks are turning them.

I saw one last week taxiing by an A380 parked near the international terminal at DFW. Amazing how small the 74 looks next to it.

The biggest differences in brushes tend to be the density of bristles. Some prefer brushes that are less dense like those made by Kiwi, and most brushes I've seen for sale tend to be this way. If you look around you can find brushes with higher density, which I prefer. I like the ones by...
