I pulled this out of retirement. This 2014 or 2015 Heavy Tin Tote off the garage floor for years with some ropes and equipment in it. Hosed it off and it became my new bag for car trips or walking around in the city. The stiffness and ‘open’ bucket form is great for quick access. I use its...

Sorry, I couldn’t tell if this was implicit in your message but I received an email from VP on 24-Nov that he is closing his business by eoy i.e. only selling off remaining stock (which wasn’t plentiful even before the announcement as I believe he had injured himself). The VP weekender seems...

I had one of his briefcases. It was extremely rugged and well made. But I tended to use my full leather Filson satchel as a briefcase (in those days where I went to an office daily) and recently gave the VP to a UK based friend. It seemed to be a very small operation so very limited stock...

This is an awesome example. I can see the nylon one evolved from this as the basic design is similar. I have a very early 242 so it also has the suitcase/clamshell style which works well for folded business clothes but lacks the straps to retain the clothing on the sides like the later models.

I have been traveling a lot as of late so I bought on a whim a black Filson ripstop Pullman on sale for $119. It not the canvas and leather MiUSA piece that most of us on the thread love, but it is light, voluminous and offers three way carry including backpack straps which makes it practical...

I travel weekly for work and like many of you, I have a lot of briefcases, backpacks etc for the laptop carry. In that Battle Royale, the zip tote won over the long haul as it was the only bag which was manageable with laptop, iPad, chargers, books, gloves, full sized NR headphones, water...

I just had that thought last week. I am 5’11” and I only get about 2 inches of clearance from the ground when the zipped tote is fully loaded.

    Filson Bag Thread: With Pictures

At some point, I realized I had accumulated more Filson bags than I could use in my lifetime. I was traveling weekly, and in a sort of Battle Royale of luggage over months due to traveling so much, practicality won out and I found myself only using my black Filson Ranger backpack (1st Gen with...

i thought I would post a pic of my VP too in the 34oz heavy waxed canvas with the CF Stead Mohawk suede. I used it a lot before business travel dwindled to a trickle. i can’t really overstate how tough it is. The roughout suede is really remarkable in its durability. It would make great material...

Nice. Another 242 in action. And like me you use it for business. One thing I love about is that it’s tough as nails: I never worry where I put it down or if it’s checked at the gate. It never seems to look any worse for wear. My only criticism is that when you hand carry it, the handle...

One of the best looking 242 examples I have seen. The leather looks perfect. I have gotten a lot of miles out of my 242. I like it a lot for business travel.

Navy works well for business but I don’t think it patinates in as desirable way as OG.

Hi OMG, Thanks for the shout out. I have had a lot of events unfold over the pandemic including brief job loss coupled with no travel meant I wasn’t posting or buying. Everything is good now. And in fact, I am using the navy Journeyman frequently as I do a lot of shorter domestic business...

He may be in that in-between stage: too much work for a one-man operation (and taking on custom jobs and keeping up with customer correspondence). But not yet large enough an operation to have extra help to manage customers etc. Just conjecture on my part but I have seen this with other...

i don’t have an insane collection, but many more bags than I can use regularly so it’s probably my predisposition to amass certain things. Despite generally being sort of minimalistic. I suspect many on this forum have probably collect other things too. I used to collect Swiss mechanical...

They are indeed threaded but it appears the corners are bound together. I didn’t want to try at this juncture since a travel tray isn’t that much use when I am not traveling much further than my driveway, anyway.

i have both. If it’s just books and laptop mostly then I agree with other posts: Journeyman. The Ranger has a lot more capacity however so if you plan on putting bulky items like clothing in there too, the scales start to tip in favor of the Ranger. I went on a leisure trip to Australia last...

It's been a while since I have posted so apologies if these items may have been discussed already. Recently, I bought two Filson Workshop items from the summer sale. The leather rectangular catch-all and the leather chain wallet. The catch-all was a pleasant surprise. The leather was...

I feel likewise. Speedy’s pics of an empty London had me nostalgic for when I passed through there several times a year for work (in my old job). Seemingly always with a new Filson piece in tow. But I was still fine with the domestic business trips and a couple of overseas trips in my new...

The relative rarity of the Filson collaborations suggests if you see a new one offered then grab it because it won’t be long for this world! Having said that, I thought the FilsonxFrost River bag was a bit odd. Like Coke and Pepsi coming up with a new cola together.
