Should shirt cuffs be snug or loose?

I disagree. I do not care for snug (let alone tight) cuffs on a shirt. On my left wrist, I need enough room for my watch. For French cuffs, one ought to have enough room to insert one's hand through the cuff with the cufflink in place.

I would judge. Which means, I suppose, that I shall in turn be judged.

HOF: What Are You Wearing Right Now - Part IV (starting May 2014)

A couple of days this week: and The keen observer might notice cuffs on my trousers in the first two images. It's true: for the first time in about 50 years I have permitted cuffs on my trousers. It may not happen again.

    Formal Wear.

Ideally, formal trousers made from the same cloth as the jacket. If the jacket is an orphan (not made as part of a "suit") you might have a difficult time getting a close enough match. If that's the case, you might as well abandon the attempt and use standard black formal trousers (tuxedo...

Why would you buy a NEW suit?

Yes, it will. You can't get Edward Sexton unless you go to Edward Sexton. Nina will do a good job for you, I have no doubt. I don't buy ready-to-wear and I don't buy used. More power to those who do, but it is not me.

What pants with a solo, solid black, 100% silk dinner jacket?

I do not believe this nonsense about matching blacks. A dinner jacket is not part of a suit and you need not be concerned with matching blacks, particularly as this jacket is silk. It was never meant to be "matched". The classic choice is black barathea trousers, formal trousers (tuxedo...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

A covered placket is okay and certainly better than a shirt with buttons. Tie and cummerbund should match the lapels of your jacket. Budd, in London, has good cummerbunds and ties. For something a littler more elevated, try Sam Homer, LaBowtique, or Le Noeud Papillon. If you haven't worn a bow...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

Thank you! This shirt was made by Budd and is bespoke. It's a heavy silk in ivory.

    burberry trench made with polyester

Back in the day (the 1970s), Burberry trench coats came in two types. First, a 100% cotton version, pretty much the original design, that the sales associates recommended for "warmer climates". Second, a polyester and cotton version that had slightly different pockets and which was recommended...

    Practicality of a cotton suit?

Cotton is not, in my opinion, a good material for a suit or jacket. It doesn't drape, it does not move with you, and it is surprisingly hot.

Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

There is a better look at the hat in the "What am I wearing" thread. I like the sombrero (or boater, if you prefer) style hat. I had a nice one from Wanahat, in Miami that I got soaking wet and it was never the same. So I asked Bill Cain, of Hat of Cain in Singapore if he could make me one. As...

Yes. I saw them on the EG stand at Pitti in January and ordered them on the R1 slim rubber sole.
