    JL vs JL vs EG

John Lobb St. James - bespoke only. And it's now a totally independent company. Is it true that Hermes also owned part of Lobb St. James? And if so, when did they sell their shares?

    Carlo Franco

You forget mentioning in every other post that you are either in law school or an aspiring lawyer. As if anyone would dare forget. But that's just Jose, I guess.

    Buying a cashmere sweater?

Let's talk socks again! Check out the Smartwool website (www.smartwool.com). They make very nice merino wool socks, not just for use in the great outdoors, but also dress socks. They should keep your feet warm.

Suggested winter clothing for grad school in Boston?

I would advise you wait before buying expedition-like underwear. If however you find you need long johns (but decide so only after experiencing the weather in MA for yourself), I would advise you buy something made by Icebreaker. This is a New Zealand company specialized in making different...

    John Lobb Paris Prices?

The Prestige line should set you back 1050-1100 EUR, the non-Prestige line approximately 750 EUR. Maybe Paris is a bit more expensive.

    Sole leather quality

Side question: deos anyone know what they use - Rendenbach? Edward Green indeed use Rendenbach. There's a reason why manufacturers strongly suggest you send the shoes back to them for maintenance, some enough to refuse to work on a shoe that has been messed with like yours. Stop screwing...

    Saint Crispin shoes

There are indeed seamless wholecuts that require a very special cutting of the leather, are there not? That's what I thought too. I believed there were two breeds of wholecuts, the ones with a seam, and the truly seamless ones, where the leather was "sculpted" into shape.

    Saint Crispin shoes

Okay, I get it. But isn't it a tad pretentious to call a shoe seamless if it in fact does have one seam?

    Saint Crispin shoes

Congratulations. I like the colour. However, I thought they would really be seamless, and I notice a seam on the inside of the heel. Have you tried round laces instead of the flat ones included?

Shoe Damage Report & Appreciation Central - Part I

They are the nicest, most comfortable, most beautifully made shoes I have ever owned. Congratulations. I think they look better than anything currently on their website. Which model is it?

    Iron Recommendations

I believe Laurastar is very good, but also very, very expensive. Perhaps some members have personally experienced using a Laurastar. I would appreciate they share those experiences with the rest of us.

John Lobb Philip II: Black calf

I don't see that on the C&J website. What's it look like? Is it handgrade? You'll find it on the French C&J website, www.crockettandjones.fr under richelieu (http://www.crockettandjones.fr/catalogue.php?rub=2). I think I like the 348 last better than the 337. It's very sharp. And the shoes are...

I won this EG. What do you think guys?

How can you tell this pair was from the Top Drawer line? I hope this answers your question re EG top line: If I recall correctly, all the shoes named after great English politicians were from the Top Drawer line. MilanoStyle: the Top Drawer line was a line positioned a little above the normal...

I won this EG. What do you think guys?

Does anyone know until what year Green made the Top Drawer line, from which I believe this pair is one? The shoes are stunning, BTW. Really great. Congratulations.

    Shoe Fit - too tight?

Construction of the shoes is also something to take into consideration. If the shoes are Goodyear made, the cork layer that is between the insole and the sole should "adapt" to your feet. By that I mean that your feet will settle in the cork, thereby you should gain another 1/4 size...

    Borelli or Brioni

I believe it's a six shirt minimum for Kabbaz. I ordered a MTM shirt from Borrelli early May. It should arrive early July. Does it take an additional 3 months for an item to be shipped from Italy to the US? Strange.

    Borelli or Brioni

Yes, they take a while to come in (5 months for me) for their MTO shirts. No, they don't have a minimum order, at least at the US Borrelli boutiques. Yes, they are very pricey. --Andre What exactly do you mean by "to come in"?

    Best mass-produced shoe tree?

La Cordonnerie Anglaise (LCA) and Dunkelman are similar in construction as Bexley, only the wood used is of better quality. The shape of the heel may differ a bit too. These trees would set you back about 60-65 US $.

    Has anyone shopped at thecloset.com?

all these shirts are listed in the 'buttondowns' section As opposed to the zipdowns? Makes sense to me

    RLPL Carter vs. EG Ecton

Another closer look, the Carter appears to have a shorter lake and longer split. Is this a consequence of way the 89 last is constructed compared to the triple 8? In other words, if one were to order the EG Ecton on the 89 last (if possible - don't know if EG will make their own shoes MTO to RL...
