    Stiff shoulders from biking

Weak abdominal and back muscles. Potentially your bars are too low.

General Bike Thread (Desiderata, Questions, Pics)

But I have no idea what about the pedals it could be. Worn outboard bearings would make that noise. My Speedplay Frogs have been making that noise for a few months. I should order the bearing kit, but I just use it as an indicator to work on my pedal stroke.

    Language Most Useful?

I'd actually prefer to learn Swedish (the culture of Sweden has always interested me), but the language has a limited usefulness. Yeah, as I've said before, not much use learning a language that 9m people speak, especially when 8.9m of them also speak English. BTW as a Swede, I've got to know --...

General Bike Thread (Desiderata, Questions, Pics)

I realize you were trying to be helpful, so I apologize for my ****** reply. But you could have assumed, since it is "bicycle mechanics, remedial edition," as you say, that they were simply on too tight and that it was turning in the correct direction. I have changed a pair of pedals before...

General Bike Thread (Desiderata, Questions, Pics)

Yeah, no offense, but if you can't get a pedal off with a 15mm pedal wrench on the flats, what are we supposed to think? It's not like you're asking how to press in a BB30 bottom bracket, how a Campy UT Hirth joint assembles, or how to press in a headset... Removing the pedals from a crank arm...

I didn't install them--the shop did. I'm having a hard time assuming they did [grease the threads]. You are aware that the non-drive-side pedal is reverse-threaded, to avoid loosening by precession?

Am I crazy for wanting to lease a top-of-the-line 3-series out of college?

leasing a new VW Jetta. The new ones look sharp, and are surprisingly cheap. Don't do that. The new Jetta is a de-contented, poorly-built disgrace. It's a car that's cheap because it's cheap! If you're looking at a car in that class, get the Civic. Or get a 2009 Jetta.

Am I crazy for wanting to lease a top-of-the-line 3-series out of college?

If you intend to drive a new BMW for 3 years (which many do), I would assume the rational actor would want to minimize total cost of ownership over that period. The problem with this statement is that the OP's financial situation doesn't meet the criteria of the subjunctive clause. So discussing...

Am I crazy for wanting to lease a top-of-the-line 3-series out of college?

Real car enthusiasts don't lease BMWs. They drive an F250 to haul their car to the track.

Am I crazy for wanting to lease a top-of-the-line 3-series out of college?

Yeah, you should lease a GTI for $375 a month. That's the rational thing to do. Thank god you didn't go do something stupid.

    Watches: Gadgets or Jewelry

I manage a group which spans multiple time zones, with the majority of my staff in NYC and London. I use an IWC UTC (3251 classic dial) displaying local (NYC) time and London time in the UTC register. I use it probably 5-10 times per day, especially when traveling and checking calendars when...

    Motorcycles

I'd pick a vintage British bike over a vintage Japanese/Italian/German bike any day of the week. I'd pick a Moto Guzzi (non chrome-bore one). The electrics will undoubtedly be dodgy, but I have a lot of experience working on tractors, so I think I'd feel at home. Agree with the reco on...

    Motorcycles

That's a pretty old "gentleman's sports" bike. With any bike like that, I'd be buying the previous owner, not the bike. My pops has a 1987 Hurricane 1000, and I'd buy that one, because he can account for every oil change and mile since new. But a dodgy Viffer with F1 pipes I'd run...

    Motorcycles

In your guys opinion would these Triumphs make for good beginner bikes? Am going to go out on a sturdy limb and say no. I've owned a number of wacky motorcycles, and wrench on all my own equipment, and there's nothing particularly challenging about British bikes of the 60s era, but they require...

Just moved my all-alloy 2006 Centaur/Chorus build to my Merckx MXL, and built up my Pegoretti with 2005 10sp Record. Got rid of a nice 8sp mid-nineties Chorus gruppo and will now start the "Great Shimano Purge of 2011." Now all of our bikes except my wife's commuter (1983 Trek 620)...

    Steve McQueen's white tennis shoes

They look dead on to the Land's End Canvas (SS2010) sneakers, pictured on the left of this page: http://www.primermagazine.com/2011/s...canvas-sneaker I bought a pair of size 10s last year on sale for $16, and never took them out of the box, as I decided I prefer Purcells. If you wear a size 10...

    Slacker Premium Radio

I love Slacker. Instead of using some stupid algorithm to try, unsuccessfully, figure out what music I will like, it just plays music I like. Brilliant. Discovering Slacker after using Pandora was like discovering I'd been shaving with a cheese grater my whole life.

    Running

Biking. Noooooooo. I love to ride my bikes more than anything and have ridden close to 50,000 miles in the last decade. There is no chance that cycling is as effective as keeping the weight off as running is. For one, it isn't weight-bearing and for two, it burns about 25% fewer calories per...
