The 2010 Howard Yount Knit Tie Design Challenge!!!

Last spring we had our first knit tie design contest. There were many entries, a great group of finalists, and one fantastic winner, the Parker Stripe. A free tie went to the winner. Along with two other colorways, the tie was produced for us in Italy and sold by Howard Yount around the world...

    Gourmet to close

Surprising news! Conde Nast, with the sage advice of McKinsey's' minions, is closing Gourmet. I'm not a subscriber, but I know a few who are passionate about the magazine. Seems like an odd move to me. They must be losing a fortune every month.

Article on "Trad" in New York Observer

    Brooks Brothers Cashmere

Any word on the quality of Brooks Brothers cashmere sweaters? Made in Scotland from Italian cashmere. Do they pill a lot? Thick enough?

    Chester Jeffries

I'm surprised we don't have a dedicated Chester Jeffries thread. Maybe there are fewer customers of theirs here than I expected. http://www.chesterjefferies.co.uk/ I haven't ordered in nearly three years and need new gloves for this fall and winter. I was thinking of The Snowden in tan or...

    Peach

I love seasonal colors, and have been thinking about peach lately, a soft, dusty pastel shade. Would you wear a peach sport coat? Paired with white, gray, maybe even navy pants, I think would work very well.

    Milanese on Google Street View.

I'm going to be in Italy next week buying for HowardYount.com, so today I was looking up a few directions. I accidentally clicked one of the turns on google, and up popped street view. First thought: Hey, random Italians looking rather classic. Next thought: What the hell? Is that guy in witness...

Things you have been forced to wear

Have you been forced to wear something, for any reason? I'm in two weddings this year and both of them have rather suspect clothing requirements. One was a beach wedding, and I needed to wear a bright sherbet orange satin tie. The next, I get to wear a tux, but have to wear a BROWN pocket...

Contest is now closed to new entries. Finalists will be announced soon. This spring, HowardYount.com is carrying its first flat-weave silk knit ties (made in Italy, finished by hand). Umbrella collars? Sterling silver v. plated gold

I'm curious what you guys prefer. Sterling silver or plated gold for the collar of an umbrella. I like silver best--adds a little more luster.

    Prescription glasses in NYC

I did some searching and couldn't find anything. Any recommendations for a good glasses shop in NYC? Doesn't need to be super high end, doesn't need to be bargain basement. Basically looking for a place to get good service (i.e. suggest some quality frames that aren't terribly boring) for a fair...
