I'm not sure since I've never had a Vibram sole, but they seem to be pretty robust...the thinner sole and stacked leather midsole is really what drew me to these, I've never been a fan of the larger Vibram soles. I thought about sizing down a half for the mini ripple as well, but after talking to Andrew and Johan they suggested keeping the same size on both the 2030 and 2040. For me, the 2030 is comfortably snug, and the 2040 feels just right with no extra room. My Brannock size is 9.5 borderline D/E.- 1pt21gigawatts
