If only I had more money to burn... Those are some seriously pretty boots.

Got myself a vintage Certina Argonaut 220 from 1968 for 200€. Runs well and keeps good time but the automatic winding doesn't seem to do a perfect job. It tends to stop during the night when it isn't worn. Any idea why this might be? Too little oil? Worn out main spring? Spring barrel full of...

    Gentleman's pocket knife

I've had several folding knives ever since childhood and for the last several years I've used a Leatherman. It's a great multitool with quick deploying blades but it is too bulky and lacks the style I want from an EDC knife. I really dislike the types of knives with tactical design cues...

Oh, right! It is very close to the shape of the sole (there are different sizes). The plate is minimally narrower than the sole, but no sanding was needed.

I didn't sand it. I took a thin strip of the sole out to embed the plate in the sole. Pic from google

I didn't really find suitable nails. I had to cut some small nails to length with wire cutters so they wouldn't go through the whole shoe. I also used glue to secure both the plate and the nails. They have been holding out well thus far.

I have the same problem with my shoes. I seem to wear the tips of all of my shoes at an alarming rate. I ordered a pack of these http://www.leatherandgrindery.com/lulu-toe-plates-metal and installed them to all of my shoes.

I had a bit of a slippage problem myself and I bought a pair of these http://www.verticalinsoles.com/insoles/2-achilles-shield.html They are supremely comfortable when going sockless, they increase the tightness of the fit just that tad bit and make the slippage problem disappear. I highly...

You have a very identical looking combo that I have. Is that a Hirsch strap by any chance? They are pretty much identical but I don't feel that bad owning my Rodina because Nomos didn't invent the look. The Tangente itself is pretty much a direct copy of old German bauhaus watches. Stowa also...

Speaking about Meermin and construction: is there any point in this storm welt? The band of the storm welt that is supposed to protect water from getting into the inner sole area is not even in touch with the upper leather and you can see into the sole construction through the gap.

You mean marks as in the laces have pressed a groove into the leather? Mine does that too but I think it's normal as leather is malleable. And it doesn't bother me because the laces themselves always sit in the grooves.

I used this method to make more room for a bony protrusion on the top of my foot.

I pressed the heel stiffeners with my thumbs from all directions and tried to soften it that way. I'm not 100% sure but I think it might have helped the breaking in process a bit. I'm also not sure if this is good for the shoes or not. At least the heels now feel softer to my thumbs.

Meermin adviced me to go with my regular sizing and I did. It feels it was the right desicion. I plan on wearing mine with thick wool socks but there's a bit of stretching to do before I get there.

Here's a pic of my new fur lined antique oak boots straight out of the box. Damn, I never get used to how stiff these shoes are in the beginning. It's like walking with skates!

And to Meermin's defence, my heels are very peculiar in shape. I can still wear them quite fine but I cannot walk in them for long distances. As I said it didn't bother me enough to keep me from buying a new pair from them. I also sent them an email about the construction and suggested that...
