Vegas Restaurant Choice: Boulud or Bouchon?

Robuchon is a must. One of my favorites. I'd also pick it over Boulud. Haven't been to Bouchon, but wasn't impressed with the French Laundry. Not sure if Bouchon is better.

    Napa winery recommendations

Anybody done the Shafer tasting? $45 Yep. Great experience. Highly recommend. We even had the pleasure of John Shafer visiting with us in the tasting room. Very nice man.

Craft Steak, Wagyu vs. Grass Fed

The wagyu will be delicious, but you might as well wait for a trip to Japan to have it. Wagyu < Kobe ... no contest. It's complete marketing bullshit that restaurants even mention the two in the same breath. A good U.S. ribeye will have marbeling that is proximate to the Wagyu...at a more...

    Obama at Five Guys!!!

Who the **** cares. +1000000 I also read that he took a gigantic **** the next morning. I can't wait until people take Obama's pole out of their mouth.

    Napa winery recommendations

+1 on Shafer and Phelps. Those are two of my favorites in Napa Valley. Hess wines are just OK IMO, but the art gallery is sort of cool. I'm not a big fan of Opus One wine...but I recommend a visit if only for the view from their rooftop patio. Mondavi has some nice "appointment only"...

Lexus GS or BMW 5 Series?

Both are great cars...no doubt. In my simple mind it comes down to one question: do you want to ride or do you want to drive? If you want to ride, then go with Lexus. If you want to drive, then go with BMW.

World's 100 Best Restaurants List Released

If you are in Napa an extra day, try Cyrus. I think it is better than FL, and is owned by an ex sous chef of his. Ate at FL last week for the first time. It was good but not anywhere near great (except for the Oysters and Pearls). I think Keller's distractions (e.g., Per Se, Bouchon) may be...

How Long before Coach K is Out at Duke?

I agree...he's not going anywhere unless it's his decision. That said, any other coach in the country would be ************ if they continually signed Top 10 recruiting classes (including signing 2 to 3 McDonald's All-American every year) and didn't make the Final Four on an annual basis. Maybe...

What are you drinking right now?

I had the Don Melchor with dinner last night, which was sirloin beef tips with butter and shallots, au gratin over spuds, and huge mushrooms stuffed with leeks, walnuts, and Stilton cheese. Seriously, buy at least two bottles of this wine. One to drink soonish, and one to drink several years...

What are you drinking right now?

2000 Hartwell Merlot and 1999 Hartwell Cab with pan grilled mustard/rosemary/garlic lamb chops. I generally am not a merlot fan by any measure. But I can't decide whether the merlot or cab is better. They are both absolutely fantastic. Last night...1999 Joseph Phelps cabernet (after half of a...

    Alinea- who's been?

I have not been to Moto, but I've heard from those that have done both that it is not even in the same league. Grant does not do anything "just to be odd" or that could compromise the integrity of the food. Cantu does some stuff that is (at the very least) unappealing to the eyes. I've been to...

Which Neiman Marcus has the best shoe department?

I agree with NM in Oakbrook. The NM Michigan Avenue collection is very limited. I believe the NM in Northbrook carries Lobb. In my opinion, Northbrook is easily the best NM in the Chicago area. Michigan Ave. is a joke, Oakbrook is a little better and NM takes the cake.

    Never patronized fast-food establishments

If Applebee's counts, then I say Cheesecake Factory. Why would anyone name a business after something so repulsive? There's even a women's clothing store in my town called Cheesecake Boutique. *shudder* Repulsive? I have never heard someone call Cheesecake "repulsive."

What are you drinking right now?

1999 Pine Ridge Stag's Leap Cabernet. It's nice but Mrs. Wick and I are struggling to see how this was Wine Spectator's (ahem, Speculator's) #4 wine for 2002. We drank a 1999 Phelphs Insignia on Friday night and it blew the Pine Ridge out of the water. No comparison. Oh well, I'll revert to...

    restaurant tipping etiquette

I usually pay the main course with credit card and tip cash by placing it on the table in a discrete envelope after the meal. However, I've been noticing that most CC receipts have extra slot for "tip." Which is more polite or more appropriate, i.e. so the server gets the tip and not the...

    Unbuttoned Suit Sleeves

I always wear two of my buttons undone on my button fly pants. I think I'll try that with my two-button and three-button jackets too. I always try to be cool and only button the top button on my two-button coats and the middle button on my three-button coats. Maybe that's too douchey of me...

    Unbuttoned Suit Sleeves

Isn't this a personal choice...no different than wearing a pocket square, two-button vs. three-button jacket, pleats vs. flat front, cuff vs. no-cuffs, four-in-hand vs. windsor, french-cuffs vs. barrel? None of these items have any functional value whatsoever, yet we all spend time laboring over...
