Japanese Shoes: Bespoke & RTW Super Thread

Yes. Can't go wrong. A small hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurant may offer the most amazing anything.

Japanese Shoes: Bespoke & RTW Super Thread

Over three years I don't think I've ever encountered bad food in Japan. And I've basically lived at the Juso shotengai for 3 months ?

Nagasaki is lovely. Let me know if you head to Fukuoka. Know some great motsunabe, sushi, yakiniku, gyukatsu, kare and yakitori places ?

Taiwan is great. Me and the wife want to go there, but we have the opposite problem. Usually with family in Japan ?

Japanese Shoes: Bespoke & RTW Super Thread

There's a store in Fukuoka called Gentry Complex carrying handwelted shoes styled similar to EG for quite nice prices. Believe it's all order based, and obviously they had nothing in my size... ? And, Fukuoka is the best city in Japan. Would recommend a trip there. Best food and chill atmosphere...

There's a lot of rumours on who makes what, and it shouldn't always be trusted. I believe though, that the handwelted stuff he makes himself.

I was actually thinking of the visual representation. Cheaney, to me, has always been undefined. Not sure if it's the lasts or the whole package, but I've never picked up a pair of Cheaneys and been impressed. Whereas to me, Miyagi Kogyos 103 (NST) is one of the better versions of the...

Japanese Shoes: Bespoke & RTW Super Thread

I'm biased of course, but I don't associate Cheaney with anything good. I consider Miyagi Kogyo a budget version of Edward Green that does not make compromises on quality. The leathers I saw when I lived in Japan wasn't all that great, but now, after we used French calf, they're upping their...

Yes. Joe Works cost a little more. And Joe Works make more Alden styles boots while Miyagi Kogyos boots are closer to workwear style.

Probably just mixed up Joe Works with Miyagi Kogyo. ?

Yes. They have Miyagi Kogyo, Santari and used to have Clinch. Pretty much projects I ran there. Now that I left I'm excited to see if they will continue with them. I hope they do, as the offering is quite unique. Had lots of cool new models made with Miyagi Kogyo that have been popular. I...

Miyagi Kogyo is available in Norway. I'll be working with them too, but mostly for work boots. Can arrange group orders for it. Especially the 103 (Norwegian split toe) and the 108 (chukka) has been popular.

Hah! Already have orders coming through the pipeline with Santari in my new business. I think the price vs quality ratio of my offering is very good, and the clients have thus far been super happy If I had started up a month earlier, I'd have a couple more ? A lot of fun to offer something...

I agree with your assessment. As you say there will always be someone willing to charge less in Japan. Customers from abroad seem to be increasing, so there is a market. Enough to feed ~100 makers? I'm not sure. Some seem to be better than others at establishing an own identity with a following.

Japan has almost an unhealthy low price for bespoke. I don't think 430 000 is all that much for the amount of work put into a pair. Good for him!

Japanese Shoes: Bespoke & RTW Super Thread

I agree. The regular bespoke makers will be wonderful, but a little out of your price range and long delivery time. Santari can probably push it down to 3-5 months depending on leather. Another option is Hiro Yanagimachi on one of his trunk shows at WFG. Think 1500 USD is possible at one of...

? Price might be a little bit higher than what I noted. 10-20000 yen, I'm guessing. He has a lot of options for handstitched waist and adaptions to last and so on too, so think it's possible to get a pair close to bespoke at a good price point.
