Why would you buy a NEW suit?

I am finding myself way too excited to get it, even though it will probably be a year long process. I’m tempted to fly to London once just to cut it down a bit.

Added the Paratodo Onda shorts to my cart on my phone the other day, and ended up checking out on my computer. I've gotten four "reminders" that the shorts are in my cart since then. Way over the top, and I clicked unsubscribe through the latest one - hopefully didn't unsub me from newsletters...

Why would you buy a NEW suit?

Kind of funny, this recently came up for me. I bought a Hickey Freeman suit on eBay that was close to my measurements for cheap, and got it tailored. It turned out well for off the rack, and all in I think I spent less than $600. This was good for something of a pretty standard style, although I...

    Ongoing Bespoke Projects

I've got an appointment with Edward Sexton next week when they visit Chicago, and I'm planning to get a suit. I think I'm going to make the leap to pants with suspenders/braces instead of a belt, since I'm at the point in life where I have some extra padding at the stomach and I'm thinking...

Vintage-style Suit: Go MTM or Bespoke?

Unless you find a place with a similar style for MTM (possibly Scott Fraser Collection?) I think bespoke is going to be your only option. If I was looking for that style though I might just troll eBay for new old stock (NOS) Giorgio Armani and get it tailored. My understanding is that it’s not...

    The Official Aloha Shirt Thread

I machine wash all my rayon shirts, and they all shrink significantly. I buy them oversize to account for this. I've started washing them inside laundry bags to reduce the wear from washing, since the fabric is delicate-ish.

Official Sales and discount code thread - Classic menswear edition

Does anyone know when Mr. Porter will begin their Black Friday sale? And if one bought an item before it went on sale, do they refund the difference?

I don’t know who put together your Chicago itinerary but they did a great job. You’re hitting a lot of my faves.

Wow balloon trousers were popular, a few sizes were gone by the time I got there. I got an order in for what I think is the right size for me so fingers crossed.

The alternative is driving to Oak Street Tailors, so I’m willing to settle for just not heading downtown at this point.

Does anyone have a decent alterations tailor easily accessible from Logan Square? For simple stuff like hemming, bringing in the sides of shirts. I had been going to a nearby cleaner but it’s been a comedy of errors the last two weeks so I need a place I can just get stuff done at.

Honestly not sure I have a good recommendation, seems like that part of the retail scene got hit pretty hard with Covid. Syd Jerome is somewhere I’ve heard about but never checked out myself.

    Cowboy boots

Well I made my first pair of boots. Went to Albuquerque for two weeks to learn from Deana McGuffin. Had a ton of fun, it was a great experience. Boots themselves are kangaroo vamp/collar and kid shaft. Inlay is all kid if I remember right - and I used the same metallic green for the side welt...

I’ve had luck with Beehive downtown. Haven’t used Sean’s recommendation yet but I’ll probably give them a try next.

This has happened to me on the new items page on multiple Macs with Firefox, where I scroll down and it kind of jerks back up. Makes it so I can scroll down like 4 rows and it will go back to the second one, then I scroll down and it jerks back up again, repeatedly.

I don’t know what it is, but scrolling on Firefox on Mac has been kind of broken for a little while. Specifically product lists, such as the new product section.

    Cowboy boots

Very sad to hear of D.W.'s passing. I first corresponded with him via email in December, and ordered his western bootmaking book in January. A bit of a shock to hear that he passed as I'm reading through the book, and I feel like I'm hearing in his own voice about his methods and philosophy.

As long as we’re here… Steed coming to Chicago on the 21st. Not sure if they still have open appointments at this point, but worth a try. I have one tweed jacket from them with another on the way, and was really happy wearing my tweed with the cold yesterday. The London Collective (Gaziano and...

    MC General Chat

Looking for Shetland sweaters, and wondering if there were any recommendations or any places clearing them out at this point. O’Connell’s looks good but I’m unsure if they’ll be too loose and would prefer to pay a bit less if possible.
