The Desert Boot and Chukka appreciation/review thread

I see that Crockett & Jones has a new chukka called the Bibury. It has a rubber sole. Hard to tell for sure from the photos but it looks like a somewhat softer rubber sole which would interest me for added comfort. Has anyone tried it? If so, how was it?

I think a black or earthtone velvet jacket can be worn during the daytime with jeans and suede loafers for a nice casual "city" look or for travel. IMO, jewel tone colors are best for more formal looks such as grey flannels and evening events so yes, those would be more limited.

This reminds me of the Lucian Barbera quote, " Europeans wear trousers too short, Americans too long. I like to wear mine Mid- Atlantic length"

    JM Weston appreciation thread

Looked at Mr Porter yesterday for Weston 180's. I noticed one of the new 180's has different sizing instructions than the other 180's. I ran into this last Fall in France at the main Weston store in Paris. The newly released Taupe suede 180's fit very different than the dark suede 180's I had...

To each his own. I prefer buttoned pleated pockets. Still on the fence about the cuffs.

Interesting to hear that Hermes uses Belvest. That is a brand that you rarely see around better US menswear retailers. I wonder why?

Which shade of navy/blue for a "not-boring" versatile suit?

I would highly recommend Ring Jacket navy suits sold at The Armoury. They are in the $1,600-$1,800 price range and the quality is excellent. They also have a variety of navy fabric options. I think you'll find their cut to be rather classic, not skinny/tight or baggy. The Armoury also makes...

Which shade of navy/blue for a "not-boring" versatile suit?

Great question. I agree with @TheIronDandy that you want a classic dark navy (with black shoes, of course). Dark navy gives you an all around classic look ideal for more formal and important occasions (and photos). When you start getting lighter it begins to look a bit more casual.

What TV Series Are You Streaming Lately?

The New Look on Apple TV - We are on episode 4. Excellent cast and the story is loosely based upon the history of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior during the occupation on Paris by the Nazis during WWII. John Milkovich is a special surprise with a quiet, delicate style (Not Con Air!) BTW, if you...

    Replacing/upgrading favourite corduroys

I have three pairs of Incotex fine whale cords with 3% elastine. They are super comfortable, especially when traveling on long flights. I then bought a pair of Incotex corduroy on sale that was 100% cotton and was disappointed. The little bit of "give" is not only more comfortable it feels...

Love that show. Oldman is so good. I read that IRL he is long-time friends with Mick Jagger and that is the reason why Jagger sings the theme song.

What TV Series Are You Streaming Lately?

I'm watching it and enjoying it. It reminded me of a classmate of mine, whose dad was a gunner on a WWII bomber and got hit by shrapnel in his leg. He brought to school his dad's Purple Heart and the chunk of shrapnel they removed from his thigh. I think about that heavy chunk of metal every...
