Not sure about @brax 's part of the world and I can't speak for his reasons. However, some insurance companies in the US will give you a break on your insurance if the watches are designated as "In vault." Meaning, they spend the bulk of their time in a safe deposit box. You have to contact...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Are you looking at the newest version of the Tank Americaine? Generally Tank Americaine's look more substantial, while the 1972 is more svelte, but it also depends on which version of the 1972 you are considering (the original, the early 2000s version ref 37010, or the more recent offering with...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Do you live in a really hot and humid climate? Sweat ruins all strap. The one thing you might consider is getting an alligator strap, but with a rubber backing for the inside that is in contact with your skin. I've seen it, but never bought one. That might help you get some additional mileage...

I saw the color combination, and was wondering about it. Looks great! Always fun to see some vintage ROs that we don't normally see. Congrats and enjoy it!

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Congrats! Looks great! I can't tell if it's just the lighting or if that is an older steel and tantalum RO? Yes, the Zenith is just way cooler sorry! I like the dial and hour markers far more! But don't feel bad, I own a 116520 sort of blobby hour markers, and I think my Zenith Daytona looks...

Yes, if you bought something you really like and that helps get you other pieces, I have no issue with that. People who buy things they didn't really like or want, with the hope of getting some very difficult to purchase items are idiots.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I heard recently that a few women are suing Hermes because sales associates suggested if they bundled purchases or buy a bunch of slow selling items to build a buying history/relationship, they will be able to get a Birkin. They bought a bunch of stuff they didn't want and still don't have...

Definitely, an interesting read. I always enjoy seeing the thoughts behind why people choose certain brands or go with independents. I think anyone who has purchased watches in the last 10+ years and see huge changes in brands, ADs, boutiques, the way customers are treated, the way watches...

I've never seen or heard of that with watches. Ferrari tried to combat flippers by making some of their supercars leases for the first either year or two. Now they have a sales contract that has a right of first refusal to the dealership. Violate the contract, and you name goes on the naughty...

Oh times were very different. It took me over 2 years to find this place, and get a black dial steel Daytona... and get this...NO WAITING LIST!!! I showed up a week before classes in August. Obviously, I went to check out my local watch shops. I stopped in at a small Rolex AD that is now long...

It was my grail watch in college. It took me over 2 years to find an AD who would sell me one at list price. I bought it a little over 27 years ago...it's still my favorite!

The Lange Cabaret was always one of my favorite pieces from them! I love that just like my Tank XL, it had a rectangular movement. That's a real shame that the Cabaret didn't wear well. The JLC Reverso Sun/Moon was probably my favorite complicated Reverso, as it still remained a very...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Definitely, a watch that needs to be tried on to check fit. I love the sun/moon and nearly bought one years ago (bought a VC instead). The sun/moon is from back before the lugs were reprofiled. Some people found the size combined with the flat case back and lugs made for a tough fit. A buddy...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I think you could do quite well with something from the 1989s or 90s from Vacheron or AP as some of their dress watches were about 32-33mm. I'm not sure if one of the smaller Patek Calatravas might still be within your budget. I saw one YG VC with small seconds on chrono24 for I think about...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Are you looking for a new watch or are vintage watches ok with you. Before the "I need to out do Flava Flav" sized watches became the thing to have in the last 15 to 20 years, watches were considerably smaller. There are some really good deals available on what some would consider modest sized...

No, I haven't tried that. I actually like it on my left wrist, as the crown never rubs against the back of my hand (which can happen with some sports watches). The only disadvantage to wearing it on my left wrist is I can't see the date at a glance. It is often obscured by my shirt cuff even...

Love the dial and that it's titanium. The size kills it for me, but it looks great on you. Enjoy it!
