The What Are You Wearing Today (WAYWT) Discussion Thread, Part II

I am just asking because this is a discussion thread, so sooner or later someone might decide to tell you what they think about what you are wearing and I just want to warn you that it might not be very complimentary. If you were here to learn then this could be a good opportunity, but if you...

The What Are You Wearing Today (WAYWT) Discussion Thread, Part II

I guess someone has to ask: are you posting because you think you look good, or because you want advice?

What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Finally got round to watching Sorrentino's The Hand of God last night. It's obviously autobiographical and a lot more 'real' than his masterpieces, The Great Beauty and Il Divo, but it shares the same great casting and performances, beautiful cinematography, quirkiness and careful...

What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Saltburn: Talented Mr Ripley meets Brideshead Revisited. An amazing central performance by Barry Keoghan and great support from all the other excellent cast members, and it looks absolutely beautiful. But... this is an overlong and rather obvious film, devoid of subtlety, that relies on...

What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Wim Wenders's Perfect Days is a slow, subtle and beautiful story of a few days in one life in Tokyo, with wonderful acting. With the possible exception of Cafe Lumière, the most Japanese film made by a non-Japanese director I've ever seen.

Official: Superhero, Comic Book, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc... FILM THREAD

The Elric stories are certainly the most conventionally fantastic of all the Moorcock multiverse tales. Personally, I am more of a fan of The Dancers at the end of Time, the Oswald Bastable sequence and the very 1960s Jerry Cornelius novels.

What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Finally got round to watching Edward Norton's Motherless Brooklyn last night. What an excellent movie. A film by someone who loves and understands the source material but realises that a film is a different thing from a book. A film by someone who understands that cinema should be more than a...

Official: Superhero, Comic Book, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc... FILM THREAD

I think Michael Moorcock* would be turning in his grave if he were dead... *who, in case anyone didn't realise, created the first and (so far) longest-lasting fictional multiverse starting in the early 1960s. And it's far more weird and brilliant than anything Marvel or DC have done.

    What are you reading?

I was very disappointed. IMHO, they are getting worse as they get longer. The Murderbot Diaries were excellent as novellas. This latest one wasn't even a proper book. It reads like churned out unedited text, which just begins and ends at arbitrary places. There is minimal plot and character...

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

Pants... I wear suits or set-ups at least half the time, but I won't count those. So, right now? Blue Blue Japan indigo sashiko patchwork The Viridi Anne black cords Uniqlo x JW Anderson brown cords It seems like I haven't worn denim for ages.

    SWD Discussion Thread for Tailoring

Some of us have been longer than that. This was well before 2014. Anyway, you're right that he's been gone (again) for a while. We hadn't really been in the same threads (he was into cars and I've never even had a driving lesson) so I hadn't noticed...

    SWD Discussion Thread for Tailoring

He was originally here under a different name, dressed very badly by anyone's standards but kept claiming he was the bee's knees and was really annoying, and then eventually left or was banned – I don't know – and came back as Thrift Vader. He's been significantly less annoying ever since.

Leather Jackets: Post Pictures of the Best You've Seen/Owned?

Now, normally I'm not really a leather or suede person but recently I had a chance to get hold of a bargain-priced mouton jacket with elongated arms from The Viridi-Anne, a Japanese label I really like. I just wanted to get a sense of the fit - hence the robo-pose (worn here with a Coeur linen...

Indonesian Boot Makers (Onderhoud, Benzein, RenavGoods, Santalum, etc)

Indonesian Boot Makers (Onderhoud, Benzein, RenavGoods, Santalum, etc)

So, a cautionary tale: a couple of years ago I commissioned some boots from Junkard, and I was delighted when they arrived: https://www.styleforum.net/threads/indonesian-boot-makers-onderhoud-benzein-renavgoods-santalum-etc.680038/page-7#post-10883142 Two years on, they still look fantastic...

    SWD Discussion Thread for Tailoring

I'm afraid I'm with @dieworkwear on this subject: some suit jackets are too obviously suit jackets to work with anything else, and this is one of them. And I wish sellers and sites would stop calling them 'blazers'...

Should I or shouldn't I buy... (clothing item)?

The only note of caution I would sound with Valstar is about proportions. IME their cut is slightly longer and slightly narrower than some others. If you have a shorter body and longer legs like me, or if you are a bit wider than average, you might want to try a few different brands on first.
