    Jantzen Tailor

I placed an order on 27 May for a shirt which Ricky told me on 22 June he'd be shipping the next day. He charged my card for the shirt on 2 July. As of early September the shirt still hadn't arrived, so (having gotten no response from him to emails that I'd sent in July and August) I went to my...

    I Want Another Scotch

If you haven't tried it yet, Huntsman, let me suggest the Bicentenary Edition Highland Park Vintage 1977 Reserve (Michael Jackson calls Highland Park "the greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whiskey"). It's not an Islay (Highland Park is on Orkney; it's the northernmost distillery in...

    Favorite Vodkas?

It used to be Ketel One, Grey Goose, or Belvedere; now it's Hangar One. By far. And if you're interested in infused vodkas, look no further; this guy does the most amazing stuff with the most unusual fruits. You can buy some online at  http://www.caddellwilliams.com/hangarvodka_main.html (And...

    Alden sizing, again

As jcusey says, the Barrie last runs big; I wear a 9 1/2 D in the Hampton last (in calfskin), but a 9E in the Barrie (in cordovan); the fit is virtually identical between them.

    Cordovan & cream polish

My cobbler suggested Kiwi Mid Tan; I've used it on my McCallums and am very happy with the results.

    Scotch drinkers

No, I haven't, but the manager of my favorite spirits shop (whose opinion I've come to trust, particularly on single malts) has, and he likes them all. And based on my experience with the Hedonism, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the other Compass Box products are very good whiskies...

    Scotch drinkers

Nice collection so far. Actually, Talisker is probably one of the most overpowering of the island malts (btw: it's distilled on Skye, not Islay); it's very pungent, heavy on the seaweed/brine/iodine, and has a peppery afterburn that'll make the sweat bead up on your forehead. I wouldn't...

    Scotch drinkers

I really like Hedonism; it's one of my favorite whiskies overall, and definitely my favorite blended scotch (although, in all fairness, I've never actually bought a bottle of blue label, so my experience of it is considerably less than my experience of the Hedonism, of which I've enjoyed several...

How did you find the forum?

I found it after buying Steve's book (I'm not sure whether Steve mentions it in the book, or I followed a link from Steve's site to get here).

Adding buttons to pants (for braces)

Thanks for the tip; I'll make sure they do this.

Great stuff; thanks for the post.

    Polo mccallum boots on bluefly

I can't say if they're a "must-have", jn3, but they are very nice, and I think that - in addition to casual wear - they make a great business casual-type shoe: I agree with rnm that they work well with the right pants; they don't look right with some of my slimmer-cut chinos and dress pants, but...

Adding buttons to pants (for braces)

Thanks, MPS - I'm pretty sure the tailor will know how to space the buttons, but I like to have a good idea of the answer before I ask the question; that way, I can better evaluate the tailor's recommendation. And I appreciate the tip about using the extra material from the hems to make side...

Adding buttons to pants (for braces)

I just got my first pair of real braces (the button-on kind) from Albert Thurston, and am going to the tailor tomorrow to have alterations made to a suit I recently bought on eBay. I've heard conflicting opinions on this topic, and searches here and on AskAndy have failed to turn up a definitive...

    HOF: Member pictures

Hello, back, Huntsman. Thanks; that was my favorite tie until I found the most amazing Brioni... And now, looking back through the thread a bit, I realize that I neglected to actually post my compliments on your KFS suit; it's very nice. And you disclaim the tie, but I think it looks great...

    Allen Edmonds: Official Thread

I like the look of those AEs - I think they'd make a great 'dressy' casual shoe (I can picture them with a nice pair of chinos - or even certain jeans - and an open-necked button down shirt). The Aldens almost look pebble-grained in those pics, are they? Even so, they'd probably make a decent...

    Pocket squares redux

Really? I've only heard it attributed to Strauss, but then, I'm no musicologist... I like your new sig quote, too; it's so true... Say, you're a pianist, aren't you? Do you play LvB much? I love the late sonatas (especially the c minor opus 111)...
