prob also not great to have trades come in at the end that give zero ***** about the work done before them. speaking of fences, the developer put up a 6’ wooden fence right up against the existing 4’ chain link fence (which is right on the property line, but part of that property) so now I...

“curb” lol. I live in 50s subdivision that was designed for pedestrian sacrifice (no curbs, no sidewalks) the first crushed pipe is almost out to the street. I think it’s illegal everywhere to dump stormwater into sanitary drains. overwhelms the treatment facilities.

Yeah it’s drainage. One of them is for drain tile (French drain) running at the footing of the foundation. The other is for the downspouts. Bad news if they back up all the way. that corrugated pipe is junk but it’s cheaper and easier to install.

my mom recently gave me a box of my grandfather’s ww2 memorabilia. I looked at his service records and noticed that he disembarked in Europe on May 8, 1945. imagine getting off the boat and seeing everyone partying because the war is over. I think he avoided the draft since he was in his 30s...

Update on the dog: I drove through the neighborhood yesterday looking for posters and those “protected by invisible fence” signs. I found a house with one of those signs at the end of a cul-de-sac right near where we found the dog. Seemed like that had to be it, since it was a straight shot...

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

I was driving back home during the city’s 4th of July fireworks. Saw an animal in my headlights. It just froze. It was a super cute old Shiba Inu with a cone, flea collar, and zap collar. No ID tag. My wife, who is a saint, jumped out of the car, picked it up out of the road and walked it across...

That’s a lot of Demi glacé Edit: to answer the original question, you probably have a nearby restaurant supply that’s open to the public. Some of them will have tableware displays. But unlike a lot of other restaurant supply stuff, tableware isn’t really cheaper. And you might have to order by...

my mother-in-law has been living with us for 3? 4? months now, with her 2 dogs. she's been trying to buy a place, but the market is still tough in her price range, plus she wants a house for a lifestyle she no longer has. we've been trying to talk her into a townhouse since they're a lot easier...

it's more getting rid of the branches that are extending over the roof. specifically i have an oak that is forked into 3 main stems, 2 of which are over the roof. arborist said they'd remove those 2. "structural pruning" though i have considered getting rid of it considering how close it is to...

my next thrilling project is having a few trees pruned so they stop dropping a dump truck's worth of leaves on my roof every fall. by the time i'm retired maybe i'll be able to do a project that actually improves the house.
