    Socks in specific sizes

Pantherella used to have more merit, but got bought by Universal Stores and the quality went away faster than you can say "sock". Last time I popped by Savile Row a number of the tailors had rebranded some from Paris, made by Bourgeois (not completelty sure I remember that - might have been...

    Barbour men's authentic mac

I am far from an esteemed memebr, but I do have one - a Solway zipper from 1982. Still going very strong. It's a bit like an old Land Rover really.

Shirt fabrics used by borrelli, fray, kiton

This is great information, and inspiring too. Thank you very much. Are all of these companies easily found via google, etc? If any are difficult to find, please could you post a link? Thanks in advance.

    Art of shaving

Another vote of confidence from me. I'd stress the nature of the products and the overall benefit of the slightly longer routine. Shaving is something to be taken fairly slowly. One of the best girlfriends thought that the ritual aspects with the oil, the brush, the slowness, the care, and the...

I just purchased a bottle of dior higher...

Works well for me as well. Viva Citrus... I am sure there must be other more classical interpretations of this.

    Straight razors

I think this requires a lot of practice and skill. I used to own one. I so wanted this to work and to free me from regular payments to the Gilette company. I had great enthusiasm and willingness to practice. But I met with failure. I just could not seem to get it sharp enough, or perhaps angle...

    Best spas for men?

So, a quick report on The Grooming Lounge. Really very good. This was my first spa experience, so I am not familiar with qualities elsewhere. Anyway, I've not seen anything else in the DC area that seems as well suited to men and designed with their needs in mind. I had a manicure and pedicure...

    Best spas for men?

Also noticed them on HBO's "K Street" Booked in for next Saturday afternoon...

    Hangover

Just to widen this a teeny bit - much water will always help. Difficult to have too much and what a difference it makes. Plus I personally find a shot of wheatgrass juice really helps the whole system along, but phew I need the ornge juice chaser.

    Dressing for success

Nice topic idea. Two things spring to mind. 1. Heard here in DC: "Dress for the job you want to have." 2. Remembered from elsewhere: "Manners maketh Man."

    Vass shoes in budapest

Thanks for the insight. I may be able to make a trip in the deep midwinter. Perhaps it is the case that the experienced shoe fitter's eye looks at a foot and sees an easy fit, whereas an obviously higher than normal arch might cue another measurement? Looking forward to your October update. Oh...

    Best spas for men?

Thanks very much. Very kind of you to advise. I saw their site just the other day and wondered what they might be like. I'll make an appointment and see how I get on.

    Suspenders/braces

I'd second this. Albert Thurston are very helpful. I now have two pairs. If you really want something different you might contact them. I got a response to my email in only 2 days. Oh and a slight aside, last time I was in London I found the Thurston braces on the Piccadilly Arcades at high...

    New users

Found this from another forum. It is easily the best forum I have read on clothing. Much of this information (E.g. on Vass shoes) is nowhere else I could find. I am gradually making my way with decent clothing, and learning everything I can, both by reading and visiting the real stores whenever...

    Best spas for men?

Does anybody have good recommendations to spare? FWIW I live in DC and have had recent good experience with Vidal Sasson for hair. Now wondering about the rest of the package...

Glenn o'brien on "queer eye for the straight guy"

Nice to read about this. Two things occur to me... 1. It's only television. 2. Perhaps aspirational TV helps a society along? ...and besides, some of these people helped out, well, watch a judge for yourself

    Custom made shirts

What do you think about shirt details? I am particularly curious about: 1. Fused versus unfused collars and cuffs - I think I prefer unfused. 2. Split yoke. Again, I think I prefer this as well. 3. Buttons - how much is it worth going for really fancy mother of pearl? What about a button cover...

Where to shop in washington dc

I have had some success at two additional places. I have too long arms for most ready to wear. 1. Highcliffe clothiers Mark is a fitter by trade. Does a good job. Sends everything elsewhere for the cutting and stiching. Shirts are pretty good, perhaps a teeny bit short in the body, no split...
