    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

It's an internet forum -- I reserve only my stupidest questions for it.

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

But it doesn't get better. It's pretty pathetic -- and depressing -- right now watching a bunch of 50-year old managing directors panicking and travelling cross-country four days a week pandering to clients just to justify their existence. I didn't think I was bragging at all that I can...

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

People love to snicker that those who work hard and make decent money can't really be happy. But then when someone admits that money isn't everything, he gets derided for it? In any case, I like making money but I don't want to do it in my specific job function. I like thinking creatively...

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

The plan was to move laterally within the organization to our Canadian office; the only way to do that was to talk to my boss. He's been helpful and even has his boss involved. Unfortunately, nothing has come up there in six months, which is unexpectedly disappointing -- I missed ~3 job...

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

Okay, I should clarify a few things: My girlfriend doesn't really care at all about money. The money is important to me, however -- right now, I can afford a nice apartment in a good area, I can go for nice dinners when I want to, go out and spend $100 on drinks some nights, take a nice...

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

I'm actually surprised people didn't say that's the obvious choice. I'm basically looking for either moral support that I can have my cake and eat it too, or people to say "You're a 'tard, girls are a dime a dozen but good jobs these days arent."

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

I make three times as much as most people "in their 20s -> early 30s nowadays." I think I have a lot more to lose and am looking to some objective advice. It's a much bigger adjustment to go from $150k/year to $50k/year than from $70k/year to $50k/year.

    Am I screwed? Career crisis...at 24.

I've posted here a few times over the past year about trying to move around in finance but actually face a serious issue now. About six months ago, I told my group head that I'm interested in exploring other opportunities in finance, be they at my current firm or with a hedge fund / private...

    Investment Banking Discussion Thread

Agree with this. Moreover, chances are that when your resume comes across people's desks, that's also what they're thinking. In effect, you're going to be "typecast" -- not that it's a bad thing. Certainly your expertise gives you a leg up on monkeys who don't *really* understand the...

    dual-tracking employment inquiries

Thanks. Sent the PM an email a few days ago but have not heard back -- position was posted three weeks ago and took about 5 to fill last time. Am not optimistic but would like to get some honest feedback, so would it be appropriate to follow up with the headhunter even though I'm a "waste" of...

    Investment Banking Discussion Thread

LevFin is actually doing great this year (though the slowdown is starting), and this is a HORRIBLE environment for trading desks at banks. High volatility, spreads steadily widening and low client activity / liquidity is about the worst combination for flow desks. As much as prop trading...

    Investment Banking Discussion Thread

I'm heading into my 3rd year in banking at a top 5 firm and am desperately trying to get out. I really enjoy the analytical part of finance but I hate serving clients. I'm trying to move over to the buyside because I find it boring to just pitch stuff to clients, most of whom won't follow...

    dual-tracking employment inquiries

A couple months ago I had several rounds of interviews at a hedge fund. I received great feedback but they ultimately hired someone with a couple more years experience. A headhunter recently brought me an opportunity that is coincidentally at the same fund -- apparently they are expanding this...

Affordable custom dress shirts in NYC?

Carl's a good guy but it took forever (read: 8+ weeks) for me to get my shirts from him, and the fits weren't consistent. For some strange reason, my barrel cuff shirts fit much better through the body than my french cuff ones did. This is obviously correctable, but the long wait time turned me...

    Following up properly after interviews

Nope -- I've been dropping resumes all over the place. In the meanwhile, I'm letting myself be encouraged by the fact that he did actually reply to my first follow-up email and they've only had about 2-3 weeks to find (since the job posting only went up the day I came in) and interview...

    Following up properly after interviews

Front office. I know I might just be being hopeful here, but I find it hard to believe that after getting good feedback from two of the most senior guys with whom I met ("Obviously we liked you so we wanted to bring you back" / "I'm impressed") they would just ignore me. That's never happened...

    Following up properly after interviews

Sweet spam, but seriously, how should I follow up again? He said he'd be in touch but it's been over a week. I've heard hedge funds can have really long processes, and I was only the first person they met, but at the very least I want to get a timeline..l.how can I reach out again without...

    Following up properly after interviews

I had an interview just over three weeks ago for a position at a hedge fund. They liked me a lot and brought me back for another round the next day (they got me done in two days because I had to travel for it). I sent a thank you note the next day to the most senior guy, who would ultimately...

What time do you wake up for work?

Depends on the day. Mondays I'm up at 5:45 and in by 7:15. By Friday I'm up at 6:45 and in at 8.
