The only addition I would have to your list would be the Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece (their upper end line). I have a couple of them and they’ve served me well. In a couple of cases I’ve taken them to my shirt maker to copy certain aspects of the style for my custom dinner shirts. My guess is...

They are practically mandatory on highly starched Marcella shirts used for white tie to avoid crackling of the starched fronts. I had them put on my detachable collar formal shirt. I haven’t seen them on softer fronted shirts, but it still makes some sense there as well.

Still elegant as always. I hate having pictures made seated. Jackets rarely behave.

Not entirely. Just a thought. Red are recommended as an alternative in ‘Dressing the Man’ I believe. But it might be a bridge too far in this case. Plus, She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed has exercised veto power over the insignia slippers. I’ll likely go with plain black.

I don’t think it makes much difference really. Your choice. If it’s a true midnight you won’t notice much difference. My last tux I had both a midnight (the color of the tux) and a black pair made. I tend to wear the black pair with alternate dinner jackets mainly to reduce wear on the main...

Ok. Zeroing in on the NYE wedding ensemble. Here are my current thoughts. Jacket: Divij Bespoke/Hemrajani shawl lapel black watch dinner jacket. Trousers: Black Steed MTM formal trousers Shirt: Hemrajani formal shirt with faux pleat front. Tie & Waist: Black grosgrain silk tie &...

This mostly mirrors my thoughts. The tartan is definitely more fun and “NYE party”-like. Our planning algorithm is that this is a NYE party which will include a wedding versus the other way around. She’s all for me wearing the tartan. She trusts my judgement and doesn’t seem inclined to make...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I’m getting married on NYE this year. It will be a small family and close friends affair at my country club. While we won’t specify black tie for the guests I’ll be wearing one of my tuxedos. The safe bet would be my standard SB model shown in pics above. However given that (a) I’ll likely be...
