It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on this thread. I have been trying to order a pair of 405 in 12.5B but TSM custy service said they don’t stock it and Alden would need to make it custom for me with “confirmation from the customer.” Usually they try to contact the factory before telling me...- DWH

Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice
I had a pair of cigar shell Alden tassels that seemed to have calfskin tassel, etc but I have never confirmed. Sorry to stress you out. The insole and lining were not in good condition if that helps. The shell is fantastic though!- DWH

This is a normal variation for Alden. I agree with you about the vastly different appearance of the loafer as a whole when the welt protrudes more rather than less.- DWH
