٭٭٭ No Man Walks Alone - Official Affiliate Thread ٭٭٭ (a.k.a. I shouldn't have slept on it)

My Beams brown and yellow knit polo shirt just arrived and I am delighted with it.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Getting away from Foo-bashing and back to watches, while I am not countering Matt’s criticism of the new King Seiko release, I think it is fair to point out that Grand Seiko put out some very elegant watches in the day with anything but clunky batons and included movements (the VFA series) that...

Out of curiosity, what is the accuracy range of PP watches?

Vintage Watch Thread (Pre-1990's watches only)

For anyone who is curious about what makes vintage Grand Seiko special, have a look at the case and dial finish of the exceptional ref. 6145-8030 featured on the Grand Seiko Guy’s Instagram account.

Nice write-ups, Foo. It is a bit disappointing, as others have said, that one can be met with uninformed ennui when making a very substantial, purely discretionary purchase at some of the luxury flagship stores. Perhaps some of the underwhelming Sales Associates are graduates of the “Twisted...

The Way They Wore: Images from the Past

Derek, regarding the cotton swatches, it is a bit tricky to tell going from the monitor rendering of the shades. In general, I would personally avoid the palest for both practical reasons (will inevitably show collar discolouration over time) and emotional (admire Tom Wolfe’s writing but not his...

Vintage Watch Thread (Pre-1990's watches only)

I have developed a real fondness for the Grand Seiko watches featured in the Special Luxury catalogues from 1969-72. Impressive references, some gorgeous dials and lots of meticulous handwork in the cases and diversity in shapes of cases. Sweet spot in terms of case dimensions as well.

I understand. Different levels of interest in different areas. We cannot take everything in our lives to the nth degree, simply on the basis of time available and wanting to move on to the next thing of importance or nothing gets done. Ask me how I know! I get a kick out of researching artisans...

Foo, since you like shagreen and customization, why not engage @SkinnyGoomba to make you a watch case in the style of Jacques Ruhlmann, who made stunning furniture using shagreen and other exotics like ivory and macassar ebony. You could even incorporate a hidden compartment. It would be very...

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

I think the “build” trumps the “face” or the “hair” (but style of haircut helps) in creating an allowance to move outside the range of conventionally “age-appropriate” clothing. Most of the older guys who look good in more contemporary clothes tend to be lean or at least fit-looking, which works...

The Official Classic Men's Coats Thread

Let’s bear in mind those photos are taken of the coats unbuttoned therefore as loose as they can get. For interest’s sake, how do you feel about De Bonne Facture’s “GrandDad” coat. It has lots of volume. Full disclosure: I am one, and own it and love it?

The Official Classic Men's Coats Thread

I see it as different coats for different circumstances. I can appreciate a sleekly-tailored topcoat for dressy occasions. For the “morning after”, when I want to shamble out for ibuprofen in dark sunglasses, the comfort of a shaggy tweed “duvet-with-buttons”, would be what I would reach for to...

The Official Classic Men's Coats Thread

DWW, I think either a balmacaan or an ulster would be a good choice for your loose herringbone cloth, preferably with an inside “poacher’s pocket” for a baguette or reading material. Given that you are having a polo coat made, the ulster might be too similar in styling, unless you already have...
