I think I understand what your saying. However to be honest I've always considered something like Nicks, Whites, Trumans, to be nothing more than casual boots anyway. Well, that is except Nicks and Whites are fully capable of being work boots, some of their boots maybe more than others. But...- dddrees

Scratches can be like that and for the most part as long as it’s not to deep the only thing you can do is try use some wax or maybe some cream and attempt to make it look a little better. From here it doesn’t look to wide or deep so wax alone might be just fine.- dddrees

I’ll give you this I haven’t worn any of my CXL boots that extensively nor that long. I just simply have a big enough rotation I don’t find myself needing to do that. Then again your the first person I’ve seen have this problem so I just had to ask.- dddrees

I’ve not experienced that. I don’t doubt that you have, but I do have to wonder exactly why and how much. I haven’t spent much time here lately but I’ve not come across anything that would indicate this to be such a rampant issue with CXL. I mean CXL is used in an awful lot of boots and shoes.- dddrees

Shoe store etiquette/advice
Just ensure you’re more focused on trying on as many different Lasts as possible in the sizes necessary. The store may not appreciate that approach but that’s the best approach for you. Of course record your results.- dddrees
