What's holding them back? In a word, volume. AE manufactures more than an order of magnitude of units per year than Gibson. Glad to see @Neo1 and @middlepP around! Freeports. I wanted to love them. That last, though. Definitely more vertical space than the 201/First Avenue boot. I have not seen marbled/shaved black shell that has any age on it. My hypothesis is that the areas where the pigment is largely missing will tend towards the caramel color of natural shell. Reference the natural shell pics @FatTuesday has been showering the board with the past few days.- aero25

Congratulations! Don't forget to baby proof your shoe collection! Automation like this is outstanding for prototyping and small batch runs. I suspect the speed of this machine is not something they'd want to rely on for production as compared to the capacity of die cut manufacturing. I'm sure...- aero25

It is analogous to the museum (or marbled) calf shoes that you can find from other fine shoemakers. It could be done in any color of shell, technically, but as @ae_ashley has said, they have streamlined their offerings this time around, and of course black is the most commonly available color...- aero25

On the flip side, those with really low insteps are being left out of the new boot-heavy offerings unless they like the big whoosh sound with each step. I'm not sure what last the Park City, Freeport, and Landon are made on. The SA I was talking to didn't know and said AE doesn't tell anyone...- aero25
