Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

This is a misrepresentation of NYC, given that a couple months ago at The Met for the Harlem Renaissance show, I entered just behind: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/appraisers/nicholas-d-lowry/ Much to the chagrin of both my sister and mom, no selfies were sought given that it appeared he...

I spent 5ish days in Singapore the December before last, and the wind blew, never. It was like being in the trunk of a car in DC in June with a half dozen soaked towels.

Which style of tailoring would you recommend for some who is short and Slim?

Just find what resonates with you. My take is that the classic stuff is classic because it works on damn near everyone - perhaps on someone 4 foot or 7 foot something, the ratios for button placement on a two button suit or a 3r2 sport coat might start to look odd.

Side adjusters, belt loops, pleats or flat front trousers for office wear?

I don't think there are any real rules here. Belt loops are probably more traditional in the US, and give you the chance to accessorize with a belt, for better or worse (if you buy a pair of tan loafers, you may feel compelled to buy a tan belt...)

That generally implies a lack of room. It may be too small of a size, or fundamentally, too small in the chest as cut, for your build.

    Advice on where to begin

How well does RTW stuff fit you? A 42 coat and a 33 trouser would imply a 9 inch drop, which may be hard to do in RTW - the trousers may need to come in substantially. You may be wanting to do something MTM - No Man Walks Alone might be a bit higher than you are looking to spend, but will come...

I think I wear pink more in FW than SS, so my linen stuff tends to be blues and whites. Have some more saturated chambrays beyond the staple sky blue stuff. I don't own a white oxford, I don't think - Boston winters tend to be so dark, I tend to reach for color in the winter.

That is somewhat dated. Brown oxfords are becoming increasingly arcane - young d00ds starting out would be far, far better off with black captoes, and beyond that, some rotation of loafers/derbies/chukkas/Chelseas for the increasingly non-suited world we live in. If someone was starting over...
