That’s not normal. That’s shoddy work. Some people may think I’m overreacting but if the welt looks like that I’d be questioning the quality of the rest of the work.

Man, that looks so much like some bourbon shell I've seen and owned. My amaretto stuff is much more orange.

Same. Wife and I are both fans (and she's not much of a movie watcher).

My hope there is that it's not hatchgrain burgundy. I know some people would get excited about it but lots of makers use hatch color 8.

What Movies Are You Watching Lately

Saw the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in a mostly empty theater. Quite entertaining. I don't know what it is but somehow Guy Ritchie has become one of my favorite directors. He just keeps turning out movies I enjoy.

Random question. Patton boots. What lace length do ya'll tend to go with when/if you replace them? Trying to find some rounded laces as a replacement and curious what your recommendations or personal choices where.

The shrinkage issues I've had were kind of all over the place. I've also had a few that were just nowhere near spec no matter how you "account for shrinkage" but they stepped up and took care of it. The worst offenders have been the low twist flannels and a few chambrays.

SPIER & MACKAY - Official Affiliate Thread

They absolutely did. I've been "down" on Spier for a while and haven't made a purchase in quite some time. This season has me thinking about making a purchase or two (out of several I'd have jumped at before).

THE 2024 ALLEN EDMONDS (AE) APPRECIATION THREAD

I feel as though they’d have to do a number of things if they wanted to even attempt to justify higher prices on calf offerings. One would be production quality in general. Have that line produced by one of the English shoemakers maybe? Second, the super soft lining they had in the...

SPIER & MACKAY - Official Affiliate Thread

Some of the recent releases and teases have me wondering if I should cave and get a new S/S go-to sportcoat. Normally I'm a bigger fan of F/W fabrics and releases but they've really brought it this season. Might have to add a few more listings on the B/S/T thread.

Proper Cloth - Official Affiliate Thread

I appreciate the feedback on this. I'd been curious about their suit/sportcoat fits but hadn't pulled the trigger. Do they use a lower armhole as is common in most OTR/MTM outfits? Or is it a more proper fitting higher armhole?

The Shell Cordovan, non-Alden Shoe and Boot Thread

Fun question: what’s the most patinaed pair of natural shell you own or have seen? Wondering just how far my natty pair will go over time.

Abso-freakin-lutely. I'm getting down to four (maybe five) pairs of boots: black, brown, dressy, and a pair of natty shell. One pair of suede chukkas. Cutting down on "dress" shoes is going to be harder but I'm trying to cut my collection in half. Maybe even cut it down by two thirds...

Simple is underrated. I've been downsizing/streamlining my collection due to life changes and I'm finding myself gravitating towards more of the "understated" (as my wife calls it) look. Between that and focusing on fit it's becoming a lot easier to grab a pair and go.
