    The Bespoke Shoes Thread

I met with lastmaker Simon Bolzoni today for a first fitting on my commision of cap toe monkstrap shoes with punching. I was initially inspired by the Edward Green "Hove" but have since learned this style of shoe has been around for more than 100 years. Lol. There is no outer sole whatsoever...

    The Bespoke Shoes Thread

For bespoke shoes, meeting in person is a must. Shoemakers who travel to where you are facilitate the process. I’m not likely to try anyone outside of the English based makers for this reason, even if their pricing appeals. In another week I will try on fitting shoes from Canons—which, to my...

I like the medallion choice here as it's not too busy. Beautiful shoes that seem quite versatile.

How to pack for transition weather (April, 10-25 degrees Celsius)

Besides long sleeve merino wool shirts, I have a few merino long sleeve henleys and a merino wool quarter zip. I leave my better quality long sleeve polos at home. On some trips where the projected weather will be cool, I don't bother with short sleeve shirts. Layering works best for me too...

John Lobb 1849 London bespoke--anyone have direct experience here?

Thanks for your input. I thought JLL was the longtime West End leader with the largest annual volume of bespoke shoe sales. I heard or read somewhere that they employ several lastmakers. I would suppose they would lose customers if fitting problems were routine there. If I don’t hear from...

John Lobb 1849 London bespoke--anyone have direct experience here?

I have great respect for John Lobb 1849 London and their ability to carry on through several generations of shoemaking at the highest level. I have enjoyed viewing several online videos which provide a peek into the entire bespoke shoemaking process involving highly skilled artisans/...

Gaziano & Girling Appreciation & Shoe Appreciation Thread (including reviews, purchases, pictures)

I sure think they will work nicely with jackets/ chinos/ jeans. That style of semi-brogue is versatile IMO and the punching brings the shoes into the casual realm. I would not wear with shorts though. Lol.

    The Bespoke Shoes Thread

Looking to use a bespoke quality analine black calf leather with the Emiko commission—a cap toe single monk strap with broguing and silver buckle. Leaning toward no medallion on the cap. I'm feeling a quiet sense of excitement and anticipation with the bespoke shoe builds. I think there is a...

    The Bespoke Shoes Thread

I’m going with Emiko and Simon, both from Foster and Son heritage (similar single monk strap shoe different color) and Daniel Wegan (Catella) and Tony Graziano from Graziano and Girling workshop. It’s the classic English aesthetic I’m after which I think all 4 makers can execute well. No...

    The Bespoke Shoes Thread

Been in communication with Daniel, just waiting on his travel schedule. I like Daniel’s experience, love for his craft and control over the building process—nothing leaves his premises. I have great respect for Tony Graziano, had a 4th shoe in mind and didn’t realize he’d be available at the...

    The Bespoke Shoes Thread

By serendipity I got the ball rolling on a pair of brown vintage oak semi-brogues with Tony Gaziano yesterday. I arrived early for my appointment with Budd shirtmakers at the Maybourne Hotel in Beverly Hills. There was a small group trunk show scheduled there. I didn’t realize Tony Gaziano...
