I feel silly asking this...
I live in the Inland Empire, CA (for those of you not familiar, think of somewhere halfway between LA and Las Vegas), so basically *deep* in suburbs/exurbs. I really feel like "me" in more classic clothes, but it feels like other people around me get noticeably uncomfortable when I show up anywhere in anything beyond polo shirt/chinos/untucked OCBD/etc.-type outfits. I don't care that people don't dress like me, I just want to feel good in what I'm wearing; but, I find myself buying clothes that make me happy and socking them away in my closet for events/situations that never come, because dressing anything besides ultra-casually is frowned upon.
I know that being dressed well doesn't necessarily mean being dressed up all the time, but dressed appropriately for situations. But what if nobody else around you *ever* dresses up, and worse, they're uncomfortable (and in some cases, insulted) with you dressing how you want? Is this something others here run into, and if so, how do/did you deal?
