Hi,

I'm getting a custom plate type belt buckle made out of sterling silver and trying to figure out how to attach it to the strap.

There seems to be 2 ways... 1) A fixed bar. 2) A hinged bar. See attached.

Does anyone know the benefit / purpose of the hinged method? Is it so the buckle adjusts to the varying thicknesses of different leather and therefore sits as flat as possible? Is there any other benefit?

I'm assuming the fixed bar would be quite a bit stronger as there are no moving parts? Presumably the parts where the metal rotates would wear away with daily use considering silver is quite soft?

Does anyone have any advice? Trying not to mess it up as it's quite expensive to have made.

Thanks.
