Not the sunglasses, but the regular eyeglasses. They're like a lighter, more curvaceous Wayfarer almost:

I'd like to know, too. Probably an Italian maker (Luxottica?). I've got a few vintage American Optical and Ray Ban frames from thrift shops and eBay with prescription lenses. Also, Allyn Scura and eyeglassboy carry some vintage frames in a similar style.

I've got these:

I'd be interested to know the maker of MM's sunglasses as well.

I think they are typical frames of that era.

I have about 5 pair of terri brogan and Polo frames from that era.

Here are some terri brogan frames from the 1980s.

Mine all have prescription lenses in them and I do not wear them anymore. Would you like a pair?

You betcha. I'm sure many of us would. You should open a B&S thread, if you never wear them any more & they're just taking up space.

I'm surprised but if you want the Marcello Mastroianni look here it is:

First pair is the terri brogans, second pair is some high dollar Italian Brand I can't make out the name of. Below that is my current pair of reading glasses so you can see the size difference. You can see that the vintage frames are 2 to 2&1/2 as big as my current reading glasses. The bottom three pair are all Polo(Made in Italy) from the late 1970s or early 1980s.

Here is the terri brogans, the Italian unnamed, and my current reading glasses. Look at the difference in frame sizes.

Here are the 3 Polo frames.

And here is a close up of the terri brogans and the unnamed(& the reading glasses.

If this is sort of what anyone wants, I'll take proper pictures in sunlight and post them on B & S this weekend. I won't price them very high (but I do want to cover my shipping costs and time).

Thanks,
Adam

There was a thread and the consensus is they are nothing you could get today exactly. There were a few close options mentioned, though.

all roads lead back to SF. (i realize this is an ancient thread but the hunt goes on)

I too am trying to find an approximation of the MM eyeglasses from 8 1/2.

Allyn Scura wants you to use these for your mod MM needs:

A nice frame but quite a bit heavier than the frames Marcello is using in the movie. A friend is recommending a search of Cutler and Gross.

I'd love to hear if anyone has had better luck identifying MM's frames.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
