You should post this thread on the PurseForvm

@SpooPoker don't you have account on there?

A thread like this would be best served on a forum section with more female members.

There is only so much we gents can constructively discuss regarding this topic, without the intended target's input...

In various levels of formality and femininity. Don't actually like all of them, but thought it'd be interesting to see the various ways women wear menswear or menswear influenced clothing. I mean even if we don't have many women in this forum (my partner reads with me), it'd be interesting to hear what people think works and doesn't.

And of course there's the other kind of menswear:

@Isolation

I like this one, but it could be made better.

Is this tie a Passagio Crawatte? That thing is 100% very vintage and 100% ugly. Needs a black knit or something more sedate

I'd like this more if the lapels weren't so formal.

And that white textured shirt is very out of place. White shirt + tweed is a bad look. One is formal and one is casual.

Also, what's up with the completely "squared" (90 degree angle) quarters?

Also personal pet peeve is when women cut their hair short. Unsexiest thing ever to me

jrd, your idea of what is attractive in a woman is completely besides the point. Women do not exist to be attractive to you, and the reasons why women wear menswear also have nothing to do with this. There's a whole section of this forum called Dumb Threads reserved for threads were people can make stupid comments, so why not keep your sexist remarks there?

This.

actually, it wasn't.

move on and pick up a dictionary.

^ Yeah read the part about DISCRIMINATION in your screenshotted definition from Google.

I can think whatever I want about anyone's mode of dress, so long as I don't use it against them when I'm hiring or have some form of economic or academic power above them.

There's a thing called PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

Can we move on?

So, um, what? Those are different aspects of sexism. Are you suggesting that you only be sexist if you're actively discriminating against women? But, still, I'm accommodating. Can we settle instead on "objectifying"?

No, absolutely not.

That's mildly Fascist and offensive. You have no right to tell me that I should be attracted to a woman with short hair. Personal preference.

(I'm going to use the word Fascist in this instance and use use a distorted definition because flying monkey pulled out another ideological term and did the same thing - "sexist")

By your logic, certain women that I've known "objectify"males. They want their partners to be in shape, well groomed, clean cut hair, etc.

Sugarbutch, that comment you highlighted is somewhat irrelevant, surely. Whether he found short hair on women sexually attractive or not is of no matter to whether he is sexist or not (or rather, how sexist, I guess all men are sexist to a degree).

I mean, he can find women with short hair extremely attractive and still be sexist, for instance if he fetishized short hair and women with short hair, which is not a farfetched scenario at all.

I mean the way he phrased it was dodgy but ever since his corrections I don't think he said anything wrong? There are plenty of things of different genders, cultures, race, or demographic that I don't find personally interesting or attractive, but as long as I don't think it takes away from their individual value because of it it's not a problem, no?

ie. not liking rap music doesn't make me racist. If I think black people are worth less or are less "sophisticated" or "classy" because they listen to rap music, I would be.

Since jrd's claim is that he doesn't let his preference affect his value judgment, and that's not something we can prove either way, this seems like a fruitless argument.

I note that the question “does this look good stylistically?” has in some cases morphed into “do I find this sexually attractive?”

I have no objection (in principle) to rational discussions of either, but let’s be clear that they’re not at all the same question.

Cheers,

Ac

Well I think it was wrong for JRD and any others to have implied at first that the question of whether a woman is sexually attractive is all that matters for whether women should wear suits, but in this case he's since declared he does not think that is the case, and has attempted to discuss the topic with regards to style, this argument seems to be just distracting from actual discussion.

This is especially as I kind of want to see what people think of those pictures I posted or the styling options I mentioned. My partner and I are going to get some suits made on our trip to Hong Kong so we're still trying out different things so this is in fact relevant to my interests.

Now it's my turn:

No one has said anything about your "right" to be attracted (or not) to women of any stripe. Nor has anyone objected to your personal preference. The essence of the objections to your earlier posts:

It's not about you and what you consider sexy or attractive.

god can we stop with the fcking derailment guys? resist the urge to type irrelevant shti. There's actually some real potential for this thread and an academic discussion with pictures.

Do menswear and womenswear have different goals? (function versus fantasy/fashion)
Should women take traditional men's silhouettes or adapt for their body types? (wearing actual menswear versus being inspired by)
etc...
