When I have bespoke coats made I like to have the canvassing replaced with overlays of $100 bills. I find that they not only allow the chest piece to hang beautifully but they also serve as extra 'pocket change' when in a pinch. Need unexpected cash in an emergency? Simply tear open a seam and spend!

This by the way, is also a way to tell how wealthy a man is - the more padding in the shoulders the more currency it took to create. Big shoulders = big timer.

Given the current state of the world economies has anyone tried this with RMB? How does it tailor?

I've often thought of having a bespoke commando style outfit created with 200 or so hidden compartments; each one holding an ounce of gold, and other compartments for first aid and sewing kits, water purification tablets, ammunition, etc. Better to blend in with the crowd when carrying high volumes of portable wealth, wouldn't you agree?
Problem for me is I don't have 200 gold ounces. Maybe I'll practice with lead until my luck improves.

Carrying around 14 pounds sewn into a jacket might be a bit difficult, too!

Trouser pocket accessed through top of waist band. Commonly found in trousers made by tailors in Hong Kong and other far east places. Usually by request in the west.

I have noticed that some Tom Baker RTW have something similar whilst looking at their website. Their inner pocket provision on some models is far more generous than average. It looks a useful addition if the size is right.

In your original post ypou suggest "pockets" in the plural - what others do they offer?

It really depends where you are travelling - sometimes it is very useful to have somewhere that a thief in a hurry will not look. The downside is that it is relatively inaccessible for you, too, so if you need to get money out in a hurry it's not very practical.

Back when I ran around to seedy bars late at night I always kept at least a $100 in the sole of my sock.

Never knew when you might have your wallet lifted, or lost, or whatever.

Always good to be prepared.

More than once this was valuable cab fare home money.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
