Cardigans under suit jackets?

Is it ok to wear these? I'm quite fond of the look of a thin sweater under a suit jacket but I don't know how a cardigan would look. Any ideas? For those interested, I was thinking grey suit with black cardigan and tie and a white shirt.

i wear one a lot in the fall. usually under a sportcoat, not a suit. my favorite is a red cardigan under a gunclub sport coat and navy tie.

So its perhaps a bit more casual than classically work formal?

personally i think so. Im sure it can be done....butI would feel a bit awkward in a suit and cardigan so I think it would show. Kinda like wearing sneakers and a suit. some people can do it, but this skinny person of Italian descent cant.

agree....would look good with a cotton slim suit. Unfortunately my opinions only go with what I have to wear....and none of my suits are casual....I need to add one soon.

Agree with the above, no no with formal suits. Goes great with casual ones.

I prefer wearing a cardigan with a suit (non-conservative business dress look) than with a sport coat.

I don't like the look with city suits. A tweed or heavy flannel, maybe, but not worsted suits.

Have worn something quite similar to this recently and intend to continue buying pieces that can match the same idea.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
