I lived there for almost 6 years when I was stationed in San Diego back in the 70's! I have to admit spending a lot of time in the Anza Borrego desert.
The Anza Borrego Desert - pretty large landscape to explore, especially around the rails and old cars that ran amuck.

(Heights on rails get to me)

Carrizo Gorge Railway (Requires quality boots to avoid slippage!)

Oops . . .

That last Elgin pick made me get mine out today! They're in need of some saddle soap for sure.

They look good to me. What do you see that makes them in need of saddle soap? I own the same pair, but have never felt the need to soap 'em up.

should i buy shoes now at $199 or wait for the 2 for $300 deal to come back?

There is no guarantee that deal will be offered, or the shoes you want will be included. It was only closeouts for the 2 for $300 when I did it last year

Hi, looking to buy my first pair of dress shoes. What is recommended? Looking at the Park Avenue
And, How do I size in them? I wear a size 8.5 B or C in Clarks Desert Boot even though my feet measures around a 11 on the brannock..
Never know what my size is, but I normally wear 8.5-9 in everything High arches >.<

Thanks

How do the Manchesters fit?  I like the look of them, but I've been leery of buying something that can't be snugged up with lacing.

I was too until I tried them on. No issues at all and I think it's because the heel cup is relatively high, they don't feel like you'll kick out of them constantly.

If you need a pair of dress shoes but don't wear dress shoes on a regular basis, it's hard to go wrong with black Park Avenues. As for sizing, the 5 last is pretty tricky. Hit an Allen Edmonds store (if possible) or a Nordstrom (if not) to get your feet measured. I'd also suggest purchasing from brick and mortar rather than the internet to make certain sizing works and to simplify exchanges if necessary.

Go to Nordstrom or an AE store if available. Get fitted. But be wary, Nordstrom like many retailers stocks "D" widths only (with the occasional odd width). So the salesman may be tempted to sell you the closest fit to what is in stock. Ask for your Brannock size, length and width. Start there.

boom.

just pulled the trigger on black Vernons, black Regent Street (to compliment my trusty pair in Chili - my favorite shoe), and the smokey grey McTavish (oh yes). total haul, just over 500. not bad

hopefully they all fit well and don't have any major black eyes. really hard to find shoes that fit my freakishly odd feet.

I recently purchased the Chili Regent Street, they really are a great looking shoe. Can I ask, what color edge dressing do you use?

When you get the black ones, I would love to see them!

500? Sheesh, I've put down more than that as a deposit for one pair of shoes. Nice score!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
