In school I studied a little bit about product design, Bauhaus and etc. I'm always looking for things that are exciting and innovatively designed, so I think I'm going to start posting them in here. If anyone runs into anything along the same vein, show it off. I have a particular affinity for Plus/Minus Zero in Japan...if you haven't seen it yet, check it out. nice stuff. i love product/environmental design

my biggest conflict is that i equally love sleek modern design with vintage atomic/Eames era design (but unfortunately they dont really coexist too well). my home is done in mostly atomic/eames furnishings (heywood wakefield furniture, vintage kromex, kidney and boomerang shaped coffee tables, 50s lamps, salem northstar dishware, and lots more stuff with starbursts and other assorted biomorphic shapes) but it would be nice to flip a switch and have it all turn over into ultra sleek modern stylings, then flip a switch to go back to atomic ..etc etc.

This is awesome http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/images/dvd-beer.jpg Yes, its a beer fridge (sized specifically for 12 oz Asahi cans evidently) with a DVD player and 12.1 inch LCD in the door. If I'm reading this thing right, its only about $300 in Japan. I totally want one.

I love love love this thread. Keep them coming, the more the better. Looking at this sort of stuff is a trip, although it makes me feel even more like a worthless poor ************* ogling $5000 tables that are lit to match my mood.

It also inspires my engineer friend to babble excitedly about attempting to fabricate the items at the cost of materials, which is hilarious.

This is a great thread. Let me be a bit of a plebe by suggesting that there are many very affordable objects that have, to my eye, a great design. Like the zippo lighter, the various models of the old Western Electric telephones, etc.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of thought that goes into objects of everyday use anymore.

Some argue that places like Ikea and the Target stores bring hip design to the masses, but I really wonder about that.

Slim, we're reading the same blogs because I've come across all of those too. The toaster is cool looking but not too functional because you have to flip and reset the toast. The wall is very cool.
