Great watch indeed, and much more user-friendly than its intimidating appearance might indicate. But...

Are there any complimentary coupons available? Because you can find the Monster on SS cheaper elsewhere.

I agree that its a great watch but I think I've seen it for cheaper on Amazon in the past. I bought the rubber strap version (not a fan of metal bracelets although the one on the black monster is nice) from Amazon when they were having one of their $25 off watches sales and it came to about $100. Right now they're asking $154 for the rubber strap version.

I have also seen them cheaper on Amazon. I actually just picked up my first Seiko an orange dial SKXA53. Fun watches and good quality at a great price. Really has me thinking of picking up a Monster

I think the deal is that you get 20% off the listed price, which puts it down to $137 or so (shipped) for the stainless bracelet model. You don't see the discount if you just click on the link; it gets applied when you checkout.

Not such a bad deal!

Duh. Sell your SKXA53 now, the Orange Monster is where it's at. You don't find an original (aside from being awesome) design in that price range too often these days; hell, Invicta now offers a OM hommage for about the same price.

Looks mightily fine on my 6.75" wrist too.

For a while I think the Invicta "hommage" was actually more expensive than the original.

I kind of wish I had gotten the Orange Monster instead of the Black Monster. Its a casual enough watch that making it bright orange doesn't really make it less useful.

FatWallet.com is reporting the deal is dead. I tried it and confirmed. It's back to "normal" price of $172 (Black Monster, steel bracelet). Oh well, this is the second time in as many months that Amazon has run this deal so maybe they'll do it again soon.

Forget the orange...blue is where it's at!

I don't know much about watches, so forgive me:

Does it make sense to buy a "cheap" automatic watch? It seems like those things are so service-intensive, that unless it's a fine watch, one might as well just go quartz. Or has the technology progressed enough that even a cheap auto is pretty decent?

Seiko's automatic movements are very robust. Movements like 7S26 are specifically designed to require no maintenance for a number of years. In the unlikely case you need to replace the movement you can obtain a new one for under $100.

The ubiqitous ETA 2824/A2 movement, which is used in most inexpensive swiss watches, is designed to work for at least 5 years before requiring service and can be worked on by most watchmakers. A brand new movement can be found for around $130.

I recommend inexpensive automatic watches to people all the time.

The 7S26 is as robust as they come. I have more than a few customers that are USMC that have 10+ years on their 7S26 equipped Seikos, and after taking them parachuting in Korea, diving in Japan and marching just about every continent in the planet they are still ticking. Looking good also. My Black Monster is going on after maybe 5 years. Without any problems. I believe that is a consensus opinion in all major Watch Discussion Fora. Your Mileage Will Not Vary! After all, it's the preferred watch among millionaires. I do not know any wasteful millionaires.

I've gotten so many compliments on this watch it's crazy. You'd think it was some $5000 watch or something.

It's very well made and feels solid and higher end than the price would make it seem.

Well, if we're talking collectors'/recently released models now, how about the PVD'ed Night & Halloween Monsters?
