I'm curious to know what brands might offer suits in a slim and fitting cut but at an inexpensive price. Any suggestions?

I think this is best detemined by trial and error rather than by brand name. As you frequent this forum, you will increasingly learn which brands denote good quality and try to find them at reasonable cost at sales, outlets and such.

I guess I've been able to identify brands such as kiton or brioni that might be great aside from the very expensive pricetag (even on sale), but I'd like to find some things in a more economical range with a good fit, even if the quality doesn't quite rival the top of the line brands. edit: I guess I could say that I'm looking for good and slim fit off the rack and at great bargain pricing in preference to things like quality of fabric and manufacturing and special details like handstitching or being made to measure and so on.

You may want to take a look at suits by Paul Smith, Etro, and Ralph Lauren Black Label.

I definitely second Paul Smith. I got one earlier this summer at a Neimans Last Call for $129. I'd also add Zegna's Z line to that. Maybe not quite as trim as PS (but very close) and better quality/detailing, IMO. Those go on sale frequently, I believe. Also, remember, for $200 and under, a good tailor can make a Joseph Banks suit fit like a Prada suit.

There are some of the 'Joseph' line of suits from Jos A Bank that are currently on closeout, which are supposed to be slimmer fitting, have side vents and plain front pants, IIRC. Check them out on their website. I would think a good tailor could work with it.

I don't know you in the USA, but here in Europe we have a fair amount of slim Italian suits... with prices now on sale starting at 100$, today I bought a Paoloni suit, Italian 100% cotton, 100% viscose lining suit for less than 100$, and i have to say a gorgeous navy cotton suit... sure it is fused and will not last an eternity, but for going out to discos and stuff... looks like one million dollars.... I am happy

, you can find also, miani, montenapoleone, lab pal zilleri, for the same range of price, and for a little more.. around $250, you can get Pal Zilleri's and Strellsons, and for a little more around $400... Valentinos, D&G and Versaces

I would also look in Dillards at Daniel Cremiuex. Calvin Klein is also pretty good in this regard - you can find some of their suits pretty cheap. Also, Dillards' Roundtree & Yorke fitted shirts are actually really well-made for the price. I have one purchased in 1994 (back when they were just branded "Dillards") that I still wear every two weeks or so.

I am a 36" chest and cannot find NOTHING that is slim fitting on me. ALso, when jackets tend to be slim fitting, the torusers usually do not matvh this cut and are quite baggy.
Depends on your size and what style you are after. Have a look at my links (down below) and if you need info email me (I have a slim-fitting clothing line)

PS usually have a very nice selection as does Ozwald Boeteng (expensive though).

Good luck
