How do you tuck in a shirt that doesnt fit in the waist?

Ok I know not everyone here has shirts that fit like a glove around their waists. My question is how do you minimize the extra fabric that bunches up when you tuck in your shirt?

Not much you can do. Personally I just tuck most of it in back so I have a slimmer looking appearance in front. There's rarely a time I'm without a jacket or waistcoat when wearing a shirt though.

You have two options (that I know of):

1. The military tuck. You start on one side, just at the front of the hip, and take the extra material and fold it over towards your rear. Holding that side in place you repeat on the opposite side and then carefully button your pants without disturbing your neat and tidy folds. With practice this is rather simple, and looks nice from the front and back (though a little out of place from the side, particularly if you raise your arms as the fold is larger at the waist than at the armpit).

2. You give your tailor $7-12 and have them alter the shirt.

I do something similar to the military tuck, but I do my folds completely in the back instead of at the sides.

I usually do #1. Keep in mind also that a tighter fitting undershirt, if you wear one, will help avoid poofiness, and that higher armholes and slimmer sleeves in your shirt will help avoid having it pull itself up out of the waistband.
