    Everything jmr said, and in addition hard wearing, ingress of water, etc can make the glue connecting the canvas gemming to the insole fail as well. Not necessarily the whole thing falling off, but may need to be spot glued back in place, which wouldn’t need a rewelt but is relevant to handwelt...

    I believe the implication is that you can reorder the same fabric, but with updated measurements, with that $40 credit. Always had issues resolved satisfactorily via email, and it's typically pretty generous (as this is)
